It’s that time again where every actor or actress talks about their new films that are coming up. Melissa McCarthy talks her weight and her new film “The Heat” with More magazine for their July/August 2013 issue. McCarthy shot a few photos for the cover and spread before she dive in for her interview. There is no secret that this particular actress is on the heavier side of the scale, but that doesn’t mean she needs to be mistreated or disrespected. It seems that someone is always poking fun at McCarthy, but she handles herself quite well.
McCarthy told the magazine that she has practically been every size a woman can be, but when she was slimmer she did not think her body was good enough. She revealed, “I’ve been every size in the world. Part of my twenties, I was in great shape, but I didn’t appreciate it. If I was a 6 or an 8, I thought, why aren’t I a 2 or a 4?” It seems this is a common issue for a lot of women. At the end of the day women need to be comfortable in their skin and for them to love their skin.
When it comes to her role in her new film called “The Heat,” McCarthy revealed, “I did not want to play two dingbats who suck at their jobs. I’d rather watch a character be good at something and be challenged – there’s more to play in that.”
There is always a type of character that actors and actresses look for to play in a movie. She stated, “The goal is always that the characters are grounded. I like to play an eccentric version of people, but I never like to be wacky, wacky, look how crazy I am.” Although some of her characters in films have been a bit wacky, but definitely in a good way.
McCarthy still needs a bit of adjusting to the Hollywood life as she is not used to it. She stated, “I’m a Midwest girl. I’m chatty. I’ll talk to anybody. In LA, that frightens people. You talk to somebody in a line in LA, and it’s like you’ve asked them to remove their pants.”
